The last 3 books I've read have all had overly submissive, nearly braindead females as the MC and I am so sick of it they would take entire books or a whole series to grow themselves a backbone and it was purely credited to the man in their lives, so this was such a breath of fresh air! Not only that, but the writing lately in many dark romance books. She's a sassy, non-nonsense kind of woman that knows her worth and isn't ashamed of who she is in the slightest, and I love that about her. She and I are so similar, it's crazy, and I love it. Everything about it had me on the edge of my seat! I swear, it's like the author created a book just for me, using my own personality as Adeline. I love these kinds of books, and this one is probably one of the best ones I've ever read/listened to.

ANYWAY, this is an excellent dark romance with a stalker and his prey, kinky play, and the undiluted adrenaline rush that comes from being both terrified by a man and also being turned on by him simultaneously. That's my take on it, and I've read a lot of books with dubious consent in addition to none at all compared to those, this one didn't make me feel uncomfortable about consent as those did. Adeline certainly feels obligated to respond the way she SHOULD, but it's important to note that she WANTS to respond to him positively rather than negatively, regardless of what society expects her to feel in such a situation. She's not running for the hills or calling the cops anymore after he reveals himself and it feels more like a game between them. It wasn't triggering to me, but that's just me. the line is blurry but I've listened to books that had such content and it did not feel like it did listening to this book. The reviews saying that this book contains actual rape. Yes, there's triggers, we get it, but everyone can make their own decision on whether to read it or not and people seem extremely focused on that for a book that's been pretty open about the fact that this is not one for the faint of heart. I'll preface my review by saying that I may be just a touch biased because I've been looking for this exact book (not literally, but figuratively), for MONTHS, and I cannot understand some of the reviews I've read. It always sounds like he saying poo-sea lmao

Separately, I had an issue with the way the male voice actor said “pussy“. By the time she started falling in love with him, I already hated him, and saw no justification for the way he treated her. He stalks her, rapes her, sexually assaults her, manipulates her and more. by the time Adeline started falling in love with Z, he had already done so much messed up stuff to her while thinking what he was doing, was justifiable, but at the same time, Z was disgusted by, and actively working to thwart pedophile, human traffickers, and rapists. The author tries to make you like the stalker even though everything he does is very similar if not the same to the exact people he’s supposed to be stopping. The book can be split up into three parts: 1, crazy stalker 2, learning more about crazy stalker, 3, falling in love with crazy stalker. Very “Twilight”-esque Plot with romanticized stalking It gets spooky and eerie at points which could give you some effed up dreams. This is not a book I'd recommend you read at night. I found her little journal entries to be riveting and the fact that Adaline had more going on than just her stalker made the character feel more rounded. The murder of her great grandmother was such a cool addition to the plot. Some of the sexual content in this book was tough for me to read, I just don't think stalkers are sexy but Zade did grow on me as the book progressed but I still found the romance tough to swallow. Not to mention the cliffhanger at the end which had me beside myself. I am rating this book 4 stars because the plot and story are very intriguing. I disagree with the sheer number of poor reviews on this book strictly due to the fact that the readers were unprepared for the disturbing and dark content. A lot of darker themes are tackled here and as a reader you need to be smart about knowing what you're walking into.

This is a full on dark stalker romance with some murder mystery elements. And the trigger warnings need to be taken seriously. Okay so this book is definitely for mature adults.
